Welcome

Hello everyone and welcome to AS Media Studies!

We are very excited to be following a new brief this year of an opening sequence to a film genre of your choice. Hope you don't find blogger too annoying everyone masters it in the end and it's how we send all your work to the examiners.

Miss Shuttle and Miss Brookes are always at hand to help so don't hesitate to ask.

Good luck in all your A level choices.

24th September: What should be on your blogs so far from Miss Shuttle's lessons:

  • Still image analysis - how it links with genre and narrative
  • Uses and gratification theory notes and how it applies to you
  • Opening scene discussion notes (Seven and one of your choice) about the conventions and effects of the opening scenes
  • Representation theory notes: Semiotics/Male Gaze/Hyperreality - questions answered on a film opening of your choice
  • High-budget vs low-budget institution research

GENRE GROUPS - British socialist drama, action adventure for children, supernatural thriller, rom/com You will be pitching your film idea as in a boardroom to a very important group of producers. You will not need to think about budget at this stage but you do need to have a clear idea of how this film will appeal to your audience. The genre needs to be obvious as this is a selling point and you need to show us an eight shot storyboard of your opening sequence. Next lesson Tuesday 18th September presentation pitches.
